To access these free resources, you must confirm a qualifying condition such as learning or ready disabilities, visual impairments, or physical disabilities.
Caldecott Medal - Awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.
Coretta Scott King Award - Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Mrs. Coretta Scott King by recognizing outstanding books by African American authors and illustrators. The award encourages the artistic expression of the African American experience via literature and the graphic arts, including biographical, historical, and social history treatments.
Newbery Medal - Awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.
Stonewall Award - The first and most enduring award for LGBTQIA+ books is the Stonewall Book Awards, sponsored by the American Library Association's Rainbow Round Table. The Stonewall Book Award-Mike Morgan and Larry Romans Children’s and Young Adult Literature Award are presented to English language works published the year prior to the announcement date.
Young Hoosier Book Award - The Young Hoosier Book Award Program encourages self-selected reading among elementary and middle school/junior high school students. You can participate in our Young Hoosier Book Award Challenge each year between October - May!
Make reading a game (with badges and prizes!) through one of our reading challenges. All challenges can be accessed via the Beanstack program either online or on the Beanstack App.
The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten ongoing challenge is designed to promote reading to newborns, infants, and toddlers and to encourage parent-child bonding through reading. (Plus, there are prizes along the way!) Learn more HERE or pop into the library to find out how to sign up!

Each summer LPLD hosts a summer reading program full of engaging programs, challenges, and prizes for all ages. Our 2025 theme, “Color Our World,” encourages you to embrace the beauty of art in all its forms, creating a colorful tapestry of experiences for everyone.
